Press Release Body: "Spaces" showcase the dynamic blend of photography and painting. The exhibition displays the synergy that exists between those who are shunned and isolated by the society due to their intellectual disability and those who are loved and revered by society for their artistic genius. The former provides an inspiration for the latter who further develops it into a thing of beauty. Through the exhibition, Society for Child Development is seeking to provide exemplary models of education and employment to those with intellectual disabilities. The show started on Saturday evening 4th October, 2008 at Open Palm Court gallery, India Habitat Center with the inaugural lamp being lit by children Jyoti, Anmol & Jatin studying in Prabhat. Art as a medium explores the depth of human emotion. It is this very ethos that attracts all sensitive artists to the organization and vice versa. In this 19th exhibition of Art for Prabhat showcasing their work are five young photographers Sunny Khullar, Mazhar Elahi, Udit Kulshrestha, Sunnando Mazumdar, Sanjay Nanda and an equally young painter Babli Das. For some of these intrepid artists this is their first show. Needless to say, what a wonderful opening to a beautiful career – with the gift of a bit of oneself to those who have little or no choices! The Artists: A motley group, bound by a collective thought Babli Das, the sole woman and the sole painter hails from Tripura and compliments the abstracts of the “Spaces” exhibits with myriad convolutions of her own. Mazhar Elahi, a National Award winner of 2008 uses his wide and varied experience in Design and other visual Arts as complements of his photographic lens. JS (Sunny) Khullar, captains a Jet Airways Boeing when he is not shooting landscapes or the monuments of Delhi. Sanjay Nanda, an economist by education, a graphic designer by profession and a photographer by passion. Sunando Mazumdar, yet another self-taught photographer and film maker, has exhibited in Delhi and Dubai. Udit Kulshshrestha, a self taught inquisitive photographer and a traveler – more a voyager of the visual senses – he explores the mediums of motion imagery, literature & creative writing, philosophy, design and music to hone his pictorial perspectives. Art for Prabhat is a unique endeavor adopted by one of the Capital’s leading NGOs’ working in the field of disabilities. The Society for Child Development started their venture in 1992 with an exhibition inaugurated by Sonia Gandhi. And from then till date there has been no looking back. Says Dr Madhumita Puri, Executive Director - “An NGOs onus for raising funds is perhaps the only way that its survival and continuity of its work being can be ensured. And it is through this sustained continuity can true impact be assured. For this to happen, everyone has to participate.” During the exhibition along with Photographer and artist Dr Madhumita Puri, Ashwin, Sanjeev Verma, Shamshad Hussain, Kammie Soni, Sambuddha Dutta Gupta and others were also present.
